Baron Island's north end sits in exposed water off Prince Rupert, where kelp-edged reef and current-swept structure drop into 40 to 150 feet. Pacific Halibut hold on the deeper flats and gravel edges through the April to August peak, taken on drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastic or heavy metal jigs, with bait fishing on anchor using whole herring or salmon heads working the slack tides. Chinook Salmon push through in two windows, February to April and again April to July, with downrigger trolling whole herring, anchovy in teaser heads, and hootchies behind flashers along the tide lines off the point. Coho Salmon follow from May into September and respond to trolling spoons and hoochies on the downriggers, with bucktailing the surface chop when fish show up top. Tide changes concentrate bait against the island's north face, and most productive drifts run parallel to the structure rather than over the shallowest pinnacles.
