Bowyer Island sits in the inner-protected waters of Howe Sound northwest of Vancouver, within DFO subarea 28-1, where rocky drop-offs plunge from shoreline structure into 40 to 200 feet of water. The island's steep contours hold Chinook Salmon through their June to August peak and Coho Salmon from June into September, with Rockfish available across the full calendar year. Anglers work the drop-off edges with downrigger trolling for both salmon species, running anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, or trolling spoons behind flashers along the 60 to 150 foot band. Rockfish come off the rock structure on leadhead jigs with soft plastics, metal jigs, and swimbaits dropped tight to the bottom. Tide changes around the island concentrate bait against the walls, and mooching cut plug herring is a productive supporting approach when salmon stack on the slower flows.
