Brotchie Ledge

Brotchie Ledge is a rocky pinnacle just off Victoria's inner harbour entrance in DFO subarea 19-3, rising out of outer-exposed water with working depths from 30 to 125 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon from June through August and Coho Salmon from June into September, with both species tracking bait along the ledge's edges. Pacific Halibut move through from March to August, while Lingcod peak from November to March and again from April to June over the same rocky ground. Yelloweye Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Kelp Greenling round out the resident species holding tight to the pinnacle and its broken rock margins. Strong tidal flow across the ledge concentrates bait and stacks fish along the up-current faces, with the shallower crown and the deeper skirts fishing differently through the stages of the tide.
