Capilano Mouth

Capilano Mouth sits at the outflow of the Capilano River into Burrard Inlet on Vancouver's North Shore, an inner-protected estuary spot in DFO subarea 28-9 with mixed bottom and working depths of roughly 10 to 50 feet. The location holds Chinook Salmon through their June to August peak and Coho Salmon from June into September, with fish staging near the freshwater plume as they orient toward the river. Downrigger trolling is the dominant approach for both species, running anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers along the shallow shelf and adjacent drop. Anglers targeting Chinook also work cut plug or whole herring on the mooching drift and drop metal jigs or soft plastic swimbaits over structure, while Coho respond to bucktail flies skimmed on the surface and metal jigs or small casting spoons retrieved through moving fish. Tide changes concentrate bait and salmon along the freshwater-saltwater seam, making the edges of the plume the most productive water to cover.
