Church Rock (off Albert Head)

Church Rock is an exposed rocky pinnacle off Albert Head on the outer edge of Victoria's shoreline, sitting within DFO subarea 19-3 and rising through depths of roughly 20 to 105 feet. The structure concentrates Chinook Salmon through the summer peak from June to August, with Pacific Halibut holding on the surrounding bottom from March into August. Lingcod use the rocky relief heavily through the late fall and winter window of November to March and again from April to June, while Yelloweye Rockfish hold tight to the pinnacle year-round. Tide lines sweep hard across the rock on flooding and ebbing currents, stacking bait against the upcurrent faces and pulling salmon into the rips that form off the structure. The mix of shallow crown and deeper skirts gives anglers distinct zones to work depending on the target species and stage of tide.
