Comet Rock and Hood Point form an exposed rocky drop-off off the northern tip of Bowen Island, where the shoreline plunges from 40 to 200 feet into the outer waters of Howe Sound. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through the June to August peak and Coho Salmon from June into September, with Rockfish resident on the wall year-round. Anglers work the ledge with downrigger trolling using anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and flashers, adjusting depth to follow bait and tide lines that sweep the point. Mooching cut plug herring on the tide change accounts for larger Chinook, while jigging metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits along the rock face targets Rockfish in the deeper broken ground. Tidal current accelerates around the headland, concentrating bait against the drop and keeping the fishing tied closely to the exchange.
