Cowan Point sits on the southeastern shore of Bowen Island within DFO subarea 29-3, an inner-protected bay with mixed bottom fishing from about 15 to 100 feet. The point holds Chinook Salmon through their June to August peak and Coho Salmon from June into September, with both species using the tide lines that form off the structure. Downrigger trolling drives most of the effort here, running anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and trolling spoons behind flashers along the depth contour. When bait stacks tight to the bottom, mooching cut plug or whole herring and jigging metal jigs or soft plastic swimbaits over the mixed substrate produce Chinook, while bucktail flies and small casting spoons worked on the surface take Coho pushing through in late summer.
