Green Island

Green Island sits at the outer edge of the Chatham Sound approaches west of Prince Rupert, a rocky offshore mark where currents sweep across structure in 50 to 200 feet of water. The reefs and adjacent drop-offs hold Lingcod from February through July and Pacific Halibut from April through August, while Chinook Salmon push through in two waves from February to April and again from April to July, followed by Coho Salmon from May into September. Anglers work the harder bottom with leadhead jigs, metal jigs, or bucktail jigs for Lingcod, and drift the deeper edges with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or heavy metal jigs for Halibut. Chinook are targeted with downrigger trolling using whole herring, anchovy in teaser heads, or hootchies behind flashers along the tide lines, and Coho respond to trolled spoons and plastic squids worked higher in the column. Tide changes concentrate bait against the island's structure, and depths shift quickly enough that dialing in the working zone matters more than covering ground.
