Passage Island

Passage Island sits at the western entrance to Howe Sound off West Vancouver, a rocky outer-exposed drop-off within DFO subarea 28-2 where the bottom falls from 40 to 200 feet. Chinook Salmon hold through the June to August peak, Coho Salmon push through from June into September, and Rockfish are available across the full calendar year. The steep rock structure and tidal current sweeping past the island concentrate baitfish along the edges, and downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, or trolling spoons behind flashers covers the salmon window efficiently. Mooching cut plug herring works the same contours when Chinook hold deep against the wall. For Rockfish, jigging leadhead jigs with soft plastics or metal jigs down the face of the drop-off targets fish tight to the structure.
