STRUCTURE

The Pendleton Artificial Reef sits off the Southern California coast in 40 to 100 feet of water, where sunk structure creates hard-bottom relief that draws reef-oriented fish. Rockfish hold here through the year, while calico bass peak from April through August and California sheephead run strong from April into September. White seabass move through in the spring window of March to July, taken on live bait fishing with live squid, sardines, or mackerel, and California barracuda follow from April through September on trolled tube lures, spoons, and swimbaits. Anglers work the deeper edges with dropper loop rigs baited with squid or cut mackerel for rockfish and ocean whitefish, the latter best from June through August. As the water cools, lingcod take over the bottom from September into February, responding to vertical jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs dressed with swimbaits.
