Point Atkinson

Point Atkinson marks the rocky headland at the entrance to Burrard Inlet, an outer-exposed point in DFO subarea 28-7 where mixed structure and current-swept ledges draw feeding salmon within reach of Vancouver. Chinook peak from June through August, followed by Coho holding through the summer into September, both concentrating along the drop-offs between roughly 10 and 120 feet. Downrigger trolling is the dominant approach here, working anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and trolling spoons behind flashers along the contour breaks. Mooching cut plug herring and jigging metal jigs or soft plastic swimbaits produce on Chinook staging tight to the rock, while bucktail flies and small casting spoons take Coho when fish push to the surface on the tide lines wrapping the point.
