Point Grey

Point Grey marks the western tip of Vancouver's Burrard Peninsula, a mid-exposure corridor over mixed bottom in DFO subarea 28-7 that funnels migrating salmon past the headland. Chinook Salmon anchor the fishery from June through August, with Coho Salmon overlapping and extending the run through September. Boats work the 40 to 120 foot band along the drop, adjusting to tide lines that concentrate bait against the point. Downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons and flashers covers both species efficiently, while mooching cut plug or whole herring produces on Chinook holding deeper. When Coho push closer to the surface, bucktailing and casting small spoons or metal jigs turn active fish in the upper column.
