Tree Nob Islands

The Tree Nob Islands sit in the exposed waters northwest of Prince Rupert, a scattered chain of rocky islets and reefs where currents sweep over structure in 50 to 250 feet. Lingcod hold tight to the rock through the Feb–Jul peak, while Pacific Halibut work the gravel flats and edges from April through August and Chinook Salmon push through in two windows, Feb–Apr and again Apr–Jul. Anglers jig leadhead jigs with swimbaits and metal jigs across the pinnacles for lingcod, and drift leadhead jigs with soft plastic or heavy metal jigs over deeper bottom for halibut, switching to bait fishing on anchor with whole herring or salmon heads when tides slacken. Chinook fishing centers on downrigger trolling with whole herring, anchovy in teaser heads, and hootchies behind flashers along the tide lines that form between the islands. The mix of shallow reef and deep drift within a compact area lets crews cover all three species in a single tide.
