William Head

William Head is a mid-exposure bay on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, fronting Victoria's outer coast within DFO subarea 19-3, with mixed bottom structure running from 25 to 115 feet. The point concentrates bait along its rock and sand transitions, holding resident Lingcod and Yelloweye Rockfish across the deeper edges year-round. Lingcod fishing peaks from November through March and again from April through June, while Chinook Salmon move through the tide lines from June into August. Currents sweep hard around the headland on ebb and flood, stacking fish against the structure where the bottom breaks from shallow reef into deeper mixed ground. The combination of accessible inshore depth and proximity to migrating salmon routes defines the character of the spot.
