Russell Reef is a rock pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water across a depth range of 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through August, alongside Lingcod that run strongest from February through April and Copper Rockfish present year-round. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho Salmon from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or trolling spoons over the reef. Anglers working the rock for halibut rely on drift jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs tipped with soft plastics, while lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits close to the pinnacle. Copper Rockfish hold tight to the broken rock in the deeper part of the range, where jigging and bottom fishing with herring or squid bring them up.
