STRUCTURE
Kelp Reef
Outer Exposed

The Digby Island Kelp Beds sit just off Digby Island near Prince Rupert, a stretch of kelp-covered rocky reef and broken bottom running from 20 to 100 feet. Lingcod hold tight to the structure with a peak from February through July, while rockfish work the same reef edges across those same months. Chinook salmon transit the adjacent water in two distinct pushes, February through April and again April through July. Jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs with soft plastics covers both lingcod and rockfish along the reef shoulders, and mooching whole or cut herring accounts for salmon and lingcod holding deeper in the column. Downrigger trolling whole herring or hootchies behind flashers works the salmon lanes running off the kelp edge.
