James Island sits in DFO subarea 19-5 off Sidney, British Columbia, a mid-exposure corridor over mixed bottom that draws fish through depths of 35 to 150 feet. Chinook Salmon peak from June through August and Coho Salmon run from May through September, both worked with downrigger trolling and trolling spoons, hootchies, and flashers along the moving water. Lingcod hold to the structure with a November-through-March peak, taken by jigging metal jigs and swimbaits or bait fishing with whole herring and live greenling. Rockfish stay catchable year-round across the mixed bottom, responding to leadhead jigs with soft plastics and cut bait fished near the bottom. The corridor also holds Sablefish and Pacific Cod, and its tidal flow concentrates bait and predators along the deeper edges.
