Middle Ground is a mid-exposure flat of mixed bottom off Victoria, sitting within DFO subarea 19-3 in the waters between Trial Island and the Victoria waterfront. The spot works depths from roughly 65 to 195 feet, a range that puts bait and bottom structure within reach across the tide cycle. Chinook Salmon peak from June through August and Coho Salmon ride a longer window from June into September, making summer the core salmon stretch. Pacific Halibut hold on the flat from March through August, while Lingcod fire through the late-fall to early-spring window of November to March and again from April into June. Strong tidal flow across the mixed bottom concentrates fish along the edges and pockets of the structure, with slack and the early stages of a building tide shaping the most productive periods.
