Oak Bay Flats is a sand-bottomed flat off Victoria's eastern shoreline in DFO subarea 19-4, sitting in mid-exposure water along the approach to Haro Strait. Depths across the flat run from 20 to 75 feet, offering a broad, gently sloping bottom that holds bait through the summer months. Chinook salmon dominate the fishery from June through August, with coho salmon building alongside them and extending the peak window into September. Tidal flow over the flat concentrates fish along the depth transitions, making the shallower sand edges and deeper drop-offs the productive zones to work.
