STRUCTURE
Pinnacle
Outer Exposed

Lasuen Knoll, also known as the 227 Spot, is an outer, exposed rocky pinnacle rising from depths of 180 to 300 feet off Santa Monica, California. The structure holds a strong groundfish population, with lingcod peaking September through February, cabezon September through April, and aggregate rockfish available year-round. Vertical jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits works the pinnacle for lingcod, while dropper loop rigs baited with squid or cut mackerel target rockfish along the rock. Warmer months bring California sheephead from April through September and yellowtail from May through October, the latter taken on live sardines or mackerel drifted over the high spots. Ocean whitefish move in June through August and respond to dropper loops with squid strips or cut mackerel worked near the bottom.
