Morse Creek Bar

Morse Creek Bar is a mixed-bottom drop-off off Port Angeles, Washington, where the seafloor falls through a range of 40 to 150 feet at mid exposure to open water. The structure holds Chinook Salmon, which peak from June through August, and Coho Salmon, which run strong from June into September. Trolling works the depth transitions here, with whole herring, trolling spoons, flashers, and hootchies covering water for Chinook, while flashers, hoochies, and cut-plug herring take Coho along the same edges. Mooching cut-plug or whole herring lets anglers hold bait against the drop-off, and metal jigs reach fish stacked deeper along the break. The changing depth across the bar concentrates both species where the bottom shifts from shallow to deep.
