Outer Exposed

Port Angeles Rockpile is an outer, exposed rock pinnacle off Port Angeles, Washington, rising through waters that run 60 to 180 feet deep. Lingcod hold tight to the structure and peak from January through April, responding to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or to bait fishing with live greenling, herring, or squid. Pacific halibut work the deeper edges from March through August, taken by drift fishing herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid across the bottom. Chinook salmon move through from June through August, with trolling whole herring, spoons, flashers, and hootchies the dominant approach, backed by mooching cut-plug herring. Cabezon also share the rocky terrain here, adding to the pinnacle's mix of bottomfish.
