Jefferson Head is an outer-exposed drop-off in Seattle, Washington, where a mixed bottom falls away through depths of 40 to 200 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak in January and again from February through April, alongside Chinook salmon that run strongest from July through September and Coho salmon from June through October. Lingcod hold tight to the drop-off, and jigging metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits works the mixed bottom, with live greenling or herring as a supporting option. Chinook and Coho respond to trolling flashers with hoochies, trolling spoons, or cut-plug herring along the edge of the drop. Mooching cut-plug herring is a productive alternative for both salmon runs as they move past the exposed structure.
