Goose Spit sits off Comox on the outer exposed edge of a sand drop-off, where the bottom falls from 20 to 120 feet and holds fish along its contour. Chinook Salmon peak from June through August and Coho Salmon run May through September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the drop, with mooching cut-plug herring a supporting option for Chinook. The deeper sand and structure hold Pacific Halibut through their March to July peak, worked with drift jigging using leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs. Lingcod stack up over the same edges with peaks in January through March and again May through September, responding to metal jigs and swimbaits along the harder structure. Black Rockfish fill in through the summer from June to August, jigged with metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits over the shallower reaches of the drop-off.
