About Goose Spit

Goose Spit is an outer-exposed sand drop-off in Comox, British Columbia, within DFO subarea 14-14, where the bottom falls away from roughly 20 to 120 feet. Chinook Salmon peak here from June through August and Coho Salmon run from May into September, with both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, trolling spoons, and hootchies along the edge of the drop. Lingcod hold on the deeper structure with strong windows in January through March and again from May through September, worked with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs. Black Rockfish stack up over the drop-off from June through August and respond to jigging with metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits. The sloping sand and outer exposure keep bait moving, so working the transition where shallow flats break into deeper water covers most of the spot's productive depth.
