About Batt Rock

Batt Rock is a rocky pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-3 with mid-level exposure and depths running from 35 to 180 feet. The structure holds a strong resident population of Lingcod, which peak from February through April, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active February through October and Copper Rockfish available year-round. Anglers work the rock with jigging, using metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits to reach fish tight to the pinnacle, and back it up with bait fishing using live greenling, whole herring, or squid for lingcod. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or trolling spoons across the deeper edges of the structure. The vertical relief of the pinnacle concentrates fish across its full depth range, making it worth covering the water from the 35-foot shallows down to the 180-foot base.
