STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Inner Protected

The Prevost Island / James Bay Drop-off sits in the inner protected waters off Sidney, British Columbia, within DFO subarea 18-3, where a rocky bottom falls away through depths of 60 to 180 feet. This drop-off structure holds Lingcod, which peak from November through March, alongside aggregate Rockfish drawn to the same rocky relief. Jigging drives the fishing here, with metal jigs, swimbaits, and soft plastics worked along the edge of the drop for both species. Anglers targeting Lingcod also fish bait on the structure, using whole herring, live greenling, or octopus, while Rockfish respond to herring, squid, and cut bait as well as mooching with whole herring or herring strip. Concentrate effort along the transition where the rock breaks into deeper water to stay on fish through the winter Lingcod window.
