Hunt Rock is an exposed offshore pinnacle off Port Hardy, British Columbia, where rocky structure rises through a water column that runs from roughly 75 to 855 feet. The pinnacle holds lingcod, which peak from May through August and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs rigged with soft plastics, along with bait fishing using whole herring, live greenling, or squid. Pacific halibut work the deeper edges from March through August, taken on drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid, and on jigging or anchor fishing over the same ground. Chinook salmon move through from May to August and Coho from June to September, both worked by trolling with spoons, herring, and hootchies along the exposed outer edges. The rock bottom also supports canary, widow, and silvergray rockfish, along with Pacific cod and sablefish across the deeper depths.
