STRUCTURE

Dundas Island sits at the outer edge of the Prince Rupert archipelago, an exposed coastal feature where structure drops from nearshore reef into deeper water between 60 and 400 feet. Lingcod and rockfish hold on the rocky pinnacles and ledges through February to July, while Pacific halibut work the deeper sand and gravel flats from April to August. Chinook salmon push through in two windows, February to April and again April to July, with coho following from May into September along the same tide lines. Downrigger trolling with whole herring, anchovies in teaser heads, and trolling spoons covers the salmon along current edges, while drift jigging with leadhead jigs and heavy metal jigs works the halibut grounds deeper down. Jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs paired with swimbaits remains the standard approach for lingcod and rockfish on the harder structure.
