STRUCTURE

Outer Exposed

Lucy Island sits west of Prince Rupert in the exposed waters off the north coast of British Columbia, a rocky islet surrounded by kelp edges, reefs, and drop-offs that fall from 40 to 150 feet. The structure holds Lingcod through their February to July peak and Pacific Halibut from April into August, while Chinook Salmon move through in two distinct windows from February to April and again April to July, followed by Coho Salmon between May and September. Anglers work downrigger trolling with whole herring, anchovy in teaser heads, and trolling spoons along the tide lines for Chinook, then switch to spoons and hoochies for Coho as the summer progresses. Lingcod come off the rockier edges on leadhead jigs with swimbaits and metal jigs, and drift jigging with heavy metal jigs and soft plastics produces Halibut over the deeper gravel between 100 and 150 feet. Strong tidal exchange around the island concentrates bait against the structure, keeping the fishery active through the shoulder seasons.
