Fairfax Point is a rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 18-4 off Sidney, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 40 feet into deeper water near 180 feet at a mid-exposure setting. Lingcod hold along this structure through the winter, peaking from November to March, and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and soft plastics, with bait fishing using whole herring, live greenling, or octopus as a supporting approach. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August and are targeted with downrigger trolling using anchovy in a teaser head, trolling spoons, hootchies, and flashers, while mooching cut-plug or whole herring works the same water. Coho Salmon run from May to September and take trolling spoons, hootchies, flashers, and cut-plug herring, with bucktailing an option higher in the column. The rock edge and steep depth change concentrate fish along the break, so working baits close to the drop-off keeps offerings in the productive zone.
