STRUCTURE
Kelp Reef
Mid

Bentinck Island sits off Sooke, British Columbia, where a kelp-covered rock reef rises through mid-exposure water at depths of 20 to 80 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from September through May, alongside a resident Rockfish aggregate that works the same rocky bottom year-round. Chinook Salmon move through in summer, with the strongest window running June through August. Anglers target Lingcod and Rockfish by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs tight to the reef, while Chinook are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies over the same ground. The rock and kelp concentrate fish along the reef edges, making the transitions between structure and open water the productive zones to fish.
