Muir Creek, also known as Muir Point, is an outer-exposed kelp reef over rocky bottom off Sooke, British Columbia, with fishable depths running from 15 to 80 feet. The reef holds aggregate rockfish year-round, while Chinook salmon peak from June through August and coho run from June into October, with pink salmon adding to the summer mix. Anglers work the rocky structure and kelp edges for rockfish using metal jigs, leadhead jigs with soft plastics, or swimbaits, and drop bait such as herring, squid, or anchovy along the reef. Chinook come to trolled anchovy, herring, trolling spoons, and hootchies over the deeper contours, while coho respond to trolling spoons, hootchies, anchovies, and flashers, with bucktailing an option near the surface. Mooching cut-plug or whole herring works the same water for both salmon species.
