Catalina East End sits off the island's eastern point at depths ranging from 40 to 300 feet, where kelp beds and rocky structure meet open water. Yellowtail runs strongest from May through October, while White Seabass and California Halibut both peak from March through July, and California Sheephead holds through the spring and summer months from April to September. Anglers working the mid-depth kelp and reef edges take Yellowtail on live sardines and mackerel, or drop yo-yo iron along the deeper drop-offs. California Halibut come to drift fishing with live anchovies and sardines across the sand flats, and Sheephead hold near the bottom structure where live shrimp, squid, and cut mackerel reach them. Come fall and winter, Lingcod move onto the deeper reef and respond to vertical jigging with metal jigs and leadhead swimbaits.
