STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Izor's Reef sits off Newport Beach, California, an outer-exposed rock drop-off that falls through 70 to 80 feet of water. California Halibut hold here through their March-to-May peak, taken by drifting live bait such as live anchovies, live sardines, live smelt, or queenfish across the structure. California Sheephead work the rocky bottom with a spring and late-summer rhythm, peaking March through April and again July through September, and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, squid strips, rock crab, or cut squid. Barred Sand Bass move over the reef in numbers from May to July, where drift fishing with live anchovies, live sardines, squid strips, or swimbaits covers the drop-off effectively. The rock bottom and exposed position also hold Blue Rockfish, Black Rockfish, Kelp Bass, Bonito, California Scorpionfish, and Blue Shark across the season.
