Huntington Flats is a stretch of open sandy bottom off Santa Monica, California, running through depths of 40 to 80 feet. The flats hold California halibut and white seabass through their spring and early summer peak from March to July, while barred sand bass build over the sand from March and again through the June to August window. California barracuda move across the area from April to September, with pacific bonito arriving May through September and leopard sharks working the bottom from April to August. Drift fishing with live anchovies, live sardines, or live smelt covers the halibut over this sandy ground, while white seabass respond to live bait fishing with live squid, live sardines, or live mackerel. Bonito take live bait chumming with live anchovies and sardines, and leopard sharks come to squid, mackerel, or shrimp soaked on the bottom across the same depth range.
