Reef Point sits off Newport Beach, California, where a rocky drop-off falls through outer, exposed water from roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure draws California Halibut in their March through May peak, along with California Barracuda from April into September and Yellowtail, Calico Bass, and Barred Sand Bass across the spring and summer months. Halibut hold along the drift lines here, and drifting live anchovies, sardines, or queenfish covers the sloped bottom effectively. Barracuda respond to trolled spoons, diving plugs, and feathers over the same exposed edge, while Yellowtail take live sardines, mackerel, or squid worked through the water column. Calico Bass and Barred Sand Bass hold tighter to the rock, where cast swimbaits and paddletail plastics reach fish along the drop.
