The 182 is an outer-exposed mud flat off San Diego, sitting in deep water that runs from 830 to 950 feet. The flat holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from February through July, alongside Sablefish that run strongest from July into February with additional showings in April and June. Lingcod hold here through their October to February peak, sharing the bottom with Shelf Rockfish, English Sole, Pacific Cod, and Skate, while Shortfin Mako and Blue Shark work the exposed water above. Anglers targeting halibut drift live anchovies, sardines, and smelt or soft plastic swimbaits across the flat, and the depth suits deep dropping squid, mackerel strips, and sanddabs for Sablefish. Lingcod respond to vertical jigging with heavy iron and metal jigs, or a live bait dropper loop set with live mackerel or whole squid near the bottom.
