Wilson Rock is an exposed pinnacle off the outer edge of San Miguel Island, rising from rocky bottom in waters running 120 to 240 feet deep in the Santa Barbara region. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from February through March and again from September through November, alongside California sheephead that turn on from June through September and nearshore rockfish available year-round. Anglers work the pinnacle for lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop live sanddabs and mackerel along the rock. Sheephead respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, market squid, and cut mackerel worked close to structure, while nearshore rockfish come on shrimp flies, squid strips, and swimbaits over the same rocky ground. The exposed setting and deep rock make this a target-rich pinnacle across the full depth range.
