Middle Anacapa Island sits off Ventura, California, where a rocky drop-off falls through outer, exposed water from roughly 330 to 1,310 feet. The deep structure holds Bocaccio Rockfish, which peak from August through October, and Lingcod, which run strongest from January through March and again from October through December. California Sheephead concentrate over the rock from July through September, while Yellowtail move through the area from June through September. Anglers work the depths for Bocaccio with dropper loop rigging using squid strips or cut mackerel, and target Lingcod with vertical jigging on metal jigs and swimbaits. Sheephead take bait fishing with live shrimp, squid, or mussels along the rocky edges, and Yellowtail respond to live sardines and mackerel through the summer months.
