About Johnson Reef
Johnson Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Gulf waters off Sarasota, Florida, positioned at 27.2713, -82.8007. The site sits offshore of the Sarasota coastline, beyond the state-water boundary, where open Gulf conditions shape the fishing day. As placed structure on an otherwise open bottom, the reef concentrates bait and gives reef-associated fish a fixed point to hold around. Anglers reach it by boat, using the published coordinates to set up over the structure itself rather than the surrounding flat bottom. Its federal-water location places it among the offshore reef sites that Sarasota anglers work beyond the nearshore zone.
