Tillamook Head sits off Astoria on Oregon's outer coast, a rock drop-off that plunges from 260 to 660 feet in exposed water. Chinook Salmon lead the calendar here, peaking March through April and again from May into September, while Coho Salmon follow from July through October. Both salmon respond to trolling with cut-plug herring, whole herring, and flashers, and mooching whole or cut-plug herring works the same water. The rock structure holds Lingcod, best January through March on metal jigs and swimbaits, alongside Black Rockfish that jig well over the drop from May through August. Pacific Halibut move across the deeper edges from March into August, taken on drift-fished herring, salmon bellies, and squid, and Dungeness Crab fill pots baited with fish carcasses and squid from August through October.
