About Cap Sante

Cap Sante sits over a rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 7 near Bellingham, Washington, where the bottom falls through depths of 260 to 660 feet at moderate exposure. Chinook Salmon run strongest from June through September and Coho Salmon from June into October, with downrigger trolling using whole herring, spoons, hoochies, and flashers working the salmon at these depths while mooching cut-plug herring covers the same water. Pacific Halibut hold along the deeper margins from April through August, taken by drifting herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus over the rock. Lingcod peak in the cold months of November through February and again from March into June, responding to leadhead jigs with swimbaits, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs worked close to structure. Black Rockfish stack up from June through August and take metal jigs and leadhead jigs, sharing the ground with Copper, Quillback, and Canary Rockfish as well as Pacific Cod.
