Dennis Shoal is a sand flat off Anacortes in DFO subarea 7, sitting at mid-exposure across depths of 80 to 140 feet. The shoal draws Pacific Halibut through its March to July peak, with Lingcod best in February and March and Chinook Salmon holding from June through August, followed by Coho into October. Halibut work here on drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, squid, or octopus across the open sand, while jigging with metal jigs or swimbaits covers both halibut and the Lingcod that hold to any harder structure on the flat. Chinook and Coho respond to trolling flashers, spoons, and cut-plug herring through the summer months, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring an option on the drift. The flat also holds English Sole, Pacific Cod, Rock Sole, and Leopard Shark across the same depth band.
