Point Thompson is a rocky drop-off in Bellingham waters within DFO subarea 7, with moderate exposure and depths running from 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon peak here from June through September and Coho Salmon from June through October, both worked with downrigger trolling or trolling using flashers, hoochies, trolling spoons, and herring. Pacific Halibut hold near the bottom from April through August and respond to drifting herring, squid, or salmon bellies along the deeper reaches of the drop-off. Lingcod come on strong from November through February and again from March through June, targeted with jigs bounced over the rock structure or live bait drifting with greenling or herring. Black Rockfish work the mid-depth rock from June through August, taking metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits.
