Cakesosta is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off La Push, Washington, where the bottom falls from about 30 feet to 180 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon (peak April through August) and Coho Salmon (peak May through September) in the water column, while Lingcod (peak February through April), Pacific Halibut (peak April through August), and Black Rockfish (peak June through September) work the rock below. Anglers troll whole herring, flashers, and trolling spoons for Chinook, or switch to mooching cut-plug herring for Coho along the same lines. Lingcod and Black Rockfish come to metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits fished tight to the drop-off, and drifting whole herring, squid, or octopus across the deeper edge takes Pacific Halibut. The rock and steep depth change concentrate fish along the break, making the transition from shallow to deep the primary zone to cover.
