Sandy Island is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off La Push, Washington, rising through water from the surface down to about 55 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon peaking April through August and Coho Salmon peaking May through September, both worked effectively by trolling flashers, hoochies, and trolling spoons across the upper water. Lingcod concentrate on the rock from February into April and respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits along the pinnacle's edges, while Pacific Halibut move through April to August and are targeted by drift fishing whole herring, squid, and octopus over the deeper bottom. Black Rockfish stack over the structure from June through September, taking metal jigs and leadhead jigs, with Blue and Yellowtail Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Leopard Shark rounding out the catch. The exposed setting and hard rock bottom keep fish oriented tightly to the pinnacle, so working depth and structure directly is the consistent approach.
