About Sea Lion Rock

Sea Lion Rock is an outer-exposed rock drop-off off La Push, Washington, where the bottom falls from roughly 330 to 1,310 feet. The steep structure holds Chinook Salmon (peaking April through August) and Coho Salmon (peaking May through September) through the warmer months, while Lingcod (peaking February through April) and Pacific Halibut (peaking April through August) work the rock and adjacent depths. Anglers troll whole herring, flashers, and trolling spoons for Chinook and shift to flashers, hoochies, and cut-plug herring for Coho, with mooching and metal jigs filling in when the salmon hold deep. Lingcod come to metal jigs and swimbaits worked over the rock, and Pacific Halibut respond to drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, and squid along the deeper edges. The exposed drop-off also produces Rockfish, Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish across its range of depths.
