About Teahwhit Head

Teahwhit Head is an outer-exposed rock drop-off off La Push, Washington, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet along a hard structure that concentrates both bottomfish and passing salmon. Chinook Salmon run strongest from April through August and Coho follow from May into September, with anglers working the upper water column by trolling flashers, hoochies, and trolling spoons, or by mooching whole and cut-plug herring. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and peak from February through April, taken by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, with live greenling and herring as an alternative. Black Rockfish stack up over the same structure from June through September and respond to metal jigs and swimbaits, while Pacific Halibut move through from April to August and come to drifted whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, and squid across the deeper edges. The steep depth range and exposed position make jigging and drift fishing the practical choices for reaching fish holding along and below the drop.
