The Bodelteh Islands sit off Neah Bay on Washington's outer exposed coast, where a sand-bottomed drop-off falls through water ranging from about 5 to 60 feet. Chinook Salmon run through the area from April to August and Coho Salmon from May to September, both taken by trolling whole herring, spoons, flashers, and hoochies over the edge of the structure. Pacific Halibut hold along the bottom from April to July and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs, metal jigs, and swimbaits, while Lingcod stack up on the rocky margins from March to May for jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits. Rockfish and Spiny Dogfish share the same ground year-round, and Pacific Cod move through from January to March, where jigging with metal jigs and shrimp flies works the deeper stretches of the drop-off. The exposed setting and sharp depth change concentrate fish along the break, making the transition between shallow and deep water the focus for most of these species.
