STRUCTURE

Outer Exposed

Jones Rock is an outer-exposed rocky flat off Neah Bay, Washington, holding water from 30 to 80 feet over hard bottom. Chinook Salmon run through the area from April to August and Coho Salmon from May to September, with both taken by trolling whole herring, spoons, flashers, and hoochies across the exposed structure. The rock bottom concentrates Lingcod from March to May and Black Rockfish from April to September, which respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits worked close to the structure. Pacific Halibut move through from April to July and take drift-jigged leadhead jigs and swimbaits along the flat, while Pacific Cod hold over the same ground in winter from January to March. The mix of depth and rock makes this a spot where salmon trolling in the upper water and bottom jigging over the hard structure both produce through their respective seasons.
